Colonial Oaks Communities: A Legacy of Excellence

Established in 1977 and headquartered in Dallas, TX, Colonial Oaks brings nearly five decades of expertise as a best-in-class senior living owner, operator, and developer. Our leadership team offers more than 120 years of combined experience, delivering high-quality care and operational excellence. Our commitment to strategic growth is reflected in our approach to expanding through acquisitions and pioneering new developments.

A Strong Leadership Heritage

Colonial Oaks traces its roots back to Diversified Housing Services (DHS), which began with the mission of developing housing for low to moderate-income seniors. As the industry evolved, DHS transitioned into what are now the Colonial Oaks Communities, continuously innovating to meet the growing needs of seniors across the country.

Under the leadership of Carl Mittendorff, who became Chairman in 2016, Colonial Oaks has upheld its compassion and operational excellence. Carl's leadership has positioned the company for continued expansion, combining visionary development with strategic acquisitions to extend Colonial Oaks' reach nationwide.

Our Vision for the Future

At Colonial Oaks, we believe in embracing cutting-edge technology and research to enhance the quality of life for those we serve. This commitment to innovation, paired with our deep-rooted culture of care, ensures that we continue to lead in the evolving senior living space. Our mission is to foster environments where residents thrive, employees feel empowered, and communities prosper.

Our Parent Company

Established in 1977 and headquartered in Dallas, TX, Colonial Oaks Senior Living is a 42-year-old best-in-class senior living owner / operator / developer whose leadership team has a combined 120+ years of experience in the senior living industry. The team is committed to growing the company through strategic acquisitions and new developments. The company currently operates 9 assets and 630 beds in Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and Kansas.

Voralto Living was established long before “senior living” was even recognized as an industry, and prior to when the large, publicly-traded operators (i.e. Brookdale and Sunrise) were even formed. Voralto Living’s unmatched longevity in the industry, married with today’s research and tomorrow’s cutting-edge technology, uniquely position the company for extraordinary success.

The original Voralto Living company, Diversified Housing Services (“DHS”), was incorporated in 1977. Its original purpose was to develop and operate communities for low to moderate income seniors. Fast forward and the company was very successful in creating and fortifying its reputation locally in Houston, TX and also in Peachtree, GA. The company has become well-known in these regions for truly caring for its residents and employees. In the Fall of 2016, Carl Mittendorff purchased the operating company and all of the company’s senior living assets. The new leadership team is committed bringing the Voralto Living culture of care across the nation through strategic acquisitions and new developments. Previously, over the course of his 9-year leadership as CIO of his former company, Mr. Mittendorff grew the company from serving roughly 240 seniors in 2006 to well over 7,000 in 2016 and from employing roughly 350 employees in 2006 to well over 5,500 in 2016, growing from 4 assets to 40.
