The Museum of Albuquerque was founded in 1967, operating out of the temporary location at an airport building. In 1975 they built their new permanent site on top of old truck terminal land, which had been unused for years since most flights left this area. When the old Albuquerque Airport building was about to be renovated, it opened up as a museum. The permanent location for this great cultural institution was finally established in 1975, and they have been operating from there ever since. The beautiful building was designed by local architect Antoine Predock and opened in 1979. A major expansion was completed recently by Rohde May Keller McNamara Architecture.
